What a flat curve is worth

The same site, across one working day, in cost per hour. Without storage and control, every peak is bought at peak price. With them the curve flattens, the contracted demand falls, and the expensive hours stop setting the bill.

Three kinds of grid work

Extending a utility network, energising an industrial estate and electrifying a village that has never had power are three different jobs. They share the same engineering discipline and almost nothing else.

One

Medium and low voltage infrastructure

Grid equipment and infrastructure at MV and LV: transformers, switchgear, protection, overhead lines and underground cable, poles, cross-arms and terminations. Supplied and installed to the standard the utility will accept, because a network that cannot be energised is not an asset.

Electrical distribution systems inside the site boundary are engineered together with the connection outside it, so the two halves actually meet.

Two

Grid projects, built end to end

Grid project construction as a single contract: route survey, design, civil works, substation kiosks, line stringing, terminations, testing and energisation. Then maintenance of the grid once it is live, because the first year is when the workmanship shows.

Three

Mini-grids, turnkey

Turnkey mini-grid projects for sites and communities the network has not reached. Generation, storage, distribution and metering delivered as one system, sized on the demand that actually exists rather than on the demand a spreadsheet assumes.

Solar-hybrid microgrid EPC sits alongside this, where the generation mix rather than the network is the hard part.

Smart controllers and sensors on the assets, a supervision layer above them, and integration with the dashboards your operations team already watches. Without the first, the other two have nothing to report.

Questions we are always asked

Grid work, in plain terms

Do you work for utilities, or for private sites?
Both, and the difference matters. Utility work has to satisfy the network operator standard from the first drawing. Private site work has to satisfy the operator only at the connection point, which leaves more freedom inside the fence and more responsibility for the design.
What is the difference between a mini-grid and a microgrid?
In practice: a mini-grid serves a community or a group of sites with its own distribution network, often where the national grid has never arrived. A microgrid sits behind an existing connection and can island from it. The engineering overlaps; the regulatory and commercial models do not.
Can you connect our site to the utility network?
Yes, and that is usually the critical path. Connection studies, the MV interface, protection coordination and the paperwork the operator requires. We design the distribution inside the fence and the connection outside it together, because a mismatch between the two is expensive to discover late.
What does the monitoring layer actually give us?
A single-line view of the network with real load flows, alarms that arrive before the trip rather than after it, and a maintenance history per asset. The practical effect is that maintenance stops being scheduled by calendar and starts being scheduled by condition.
Can you maintain a network you did not build?
Regularly. It starts with an audit of the assets and the protection settings, because a maintenance plan that does not match the network on the ground is worse than none.
How do you size storage on a grid project?
From measured data. Quarter-hourly consumption, outage frequency and duration, and the tariff structure. Storage sized on peak shaving pays back differently from storage sized for autonomy, and the two rarely give the same answer.
